Nelfinavir - Mode of Action

Mode of Action

This section does not cite any references or sources.

Nelfinavir is a protease inhibitor: it inhibits HIV-1 and HIV-2 proteases. This protease is an enzyme which splits viral protein molecules into smaller fragments, and it is vital to both the replication of the virus within the cell, and also to the release of mature viral particles from an infected cell. Though this mode of action is common to all protease inhibitors, the precise mode of binding of Nelfinavir to the enzyme may be sufficiently unique to reduce cross-resistance between it and other PIs. Also, not all PIs inhibit both HIV-1 and HIV-2 proteases.

Famous quotes containing the words mode of, mode and/or action:

Young children learn in a different manner from that of older children and adults, yet we can teach them many things if we adapt our materials and mode of instruction to their level of ability. But we miseducate young children when we assume that their learning abilities are comparable to those of older children and that they can be taught with materials and with the same instructional procedures appropriate to school-age children.
    David Elkind (20th century)

The love of their country is with them only a mode of flattering its master; as soon as they think that master can no longer hear, they speak of everything with a frankness which is the more startling because those who listen to it become responsible.
    Marquis De Custine (1790–1857)

Any genuine philosophy leads to action and from action back again to wonder, to the enduring fact of mystery.
    Henry Miller (1891–1980)
