Neil Tennant - Personal Life

Personal Life

Tennant neither denied nor confirmed rumours of his sexuality throughout the 1980s, before "coming out" in a 1994 interview for Attitude, a UK gay lifestyle magazine.

In 1998, Tennant was named in a list of the biggest private financial donors to the Labour Party. He has since switched allegiance to the Liberal Democrats, citing disillusionment with Labour's ID card scheme.

He is a patron of the Elton John AIDS Foundation.

Famous quotes containing the words personal and/or life:

What stunned me was the regular assertion that feminists were “anti-family.” . . . It was motherhood that got me into the movement in the first place. I became an activist after recognizing how excruciatingly personal the political was to me and my sons. It was the women’s movement that put self-esteem back into “just a housewife,” rescuing our intelligence from the junk pile of “instinct” and making it human, deliberate, powerful.
    Mary Kay Blakely (20th century)

I do not mean to imply that the good old days were perfect. But the institutions and structure—the web—of society needed reform, not demolition. To have cut the institutional and community strands without replacing them with new ones proved to be a form of abuse to one generation and to the next. For so many Americans, the tragedy was not in dreaming that life could be better; the tragedy was that the dreaming ended.
    Richard Louv (20th century)
