Community Service
Nazareth College has a strong reputation in the Rochester area for community service. Over 90% of its students participate in some form of community service during their college careers, often during freshman orientation. The school also has a campus ministry program to connect students to various volunteer organizations. In addition, over 60% of alumni are known to participate regularly in community service. In 2007, the college was named to the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll (with distinction). And in 2013, Nazareth was only one of five schools in the country named to the 2013 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, the highest honor a college or university can receive, at the federal level, for its commitment to volunteering, service-learning, and civic engagement.

Famous quotes containing the words community and/or service:
“Human life in common is only made possible when a majority comes together which is stronger than any separate individual and which remains united against all separate individuals. The power of this community is then set up as right in opposition to the power of the individual, which is condemned as brute force.”
—Sigmund Freud (18561939)
“We could not help being struck by the seeming, though innocent, indifference of Nature to these mens necessities, while elsewhere she was equally serving others. Like a true benefactress, the secret of her service is unchangeableness. Thus is the busiest merchant, though within sight of his Lowell, put to pilgrims shifts, and soon comes to staff and scrip and scallop-shell.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
