Natural Landscaping - Native Plant Societies

Native Plant Societies

In many parts of the world, there are societies, clubs or local groups, such as Bushcare or ASGAP in Australia or the North American Native Plant Society, which are made up of gardeners interested in growing plants local to their area, state or country. Some native plant organizations in the United States are Wild Ones (which has local chapters in many states), New England Wildflower Society, and Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. They can be the best way to find out about (and to obtain, by buying or swapping) local native plants. Many members have spent years or decades cultivating local plants or bushwalking in local areas.

Famous quotes containing the words native, plant and/or societies:

Would it not be worth while to discover nature in Milton? be native to the universe? I, too, love Concord best, but I am glad when I discover, in oceans and wildernesses far away, the material of a million Concords: indeed, I am lost, unless I discover them.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

Plant melons, harvest melons; plant beans, harvest beans.
    Chinese proverb.

The mere fact of leaving ultimate social control in the hands of the people has not guaranteed that men will be able to conduct their lives as free men. Those societies where men know they are free are often democracies, but sometimes they have strong chiefs and kings. ... they have, however, one common characteristic: they are all alike in making certain freedoms common to all citizens, and inalienable.
    Ruth Benedict (1887–1948)
