Historically committed to preserving the environment, Natura was established in 1983, and was the first company to introduce refills in Brazilian cosmetics industry. In 2007 Natura started to provide its consumer products with neutral carbon thanks to its Carbon Neutral Program, designed to reduce and offset emissions of gases causing the greenhouse gases (GHGs). In the same year, it became a pioneer in providing its customers with the Environmental Table: a framework for information printed on product packaging, which presents technical data about the formulations and packaging. Inspired by the nutritional table of food products, which provides information such as the percentage of renewable plant-derived ingredients and recommended number of refilagens.

In 2007 the company invested about R$108 million in research and development of new products, establishing itself as the cosmetics company in Latin America that invests more in that area. To develop its products, Natura seeks to mobilize broad social networks able to integrate scientific knowledge and wisdom of traditional communities, promoting at the same time, the sustainable use of biodiversity botany. In the steps of their development and production of cosmetics, Natura does not test on animals and follows the most stringent international safety standards. The company holds certifications ISO 14001 and ISO 9001. Being a public company since 2004, its shares are listed on Novo Mercado (the highest level of corporate governance or Stock Exchange ). Natura's performance in 2007 shows a consolidated gross revenue of R$ 4.3 billion, a growth of 10.6% over the previous year. Its consolidated net income was R$ 462.3 million, generating a return on opening shareholders' equity of 72.1%.

In the last 5 years, the brand Natura has been pointed out as one of the most valuable, admired and desired by Brazil's research institutes and media outlets. According to IstoƩ Magazine its "The most valuable brand in Brazil 2008," and according to the company, its business is "ethics and aesthetics".

In 2011 they opened their first boutique in Paris, France.
