Flag of Jordan

The flag of Jordan is the official flag of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, which represents the state, its sovereignty, its institutions and its citizens, both in Jordan and worldwide. This flag consists of horizontal black, white, and green bands that are connected by a red chevron.

The flag was officially adopted on 2 September 1920 as the flag of Emirate of Transjordan, and it continued to be the nation's flag after the state was renamed on 25 May 1946.

Famous quotes containing the words flag of, flag and/or jordan:

Swift blazing flag of the regiment,
Eagle with crest of red and gold,
These men were born to drill and die.
Point for them the virtue of slaughter,
Make plain to them the excellence of killing
And a field where a thousand corpses lie.
    Stephen Crane (1871–1900)

Hath not the morning dawned with added light?
And shall not evening call another star
Out of the infinite regions of the night,
To mark this day in Heaven? At last, we are
A nation among nations; and the world
Shall soon behold in many a distant port
    Another flag unfurled!
    Henry Timrod (1828–1867)

We do not deride the fears of prospering white America. A nation of violence and private property has every reason to dread the violated and the deprived.
    —June Jordan (b. 1939)
