National Night Out is a community-police awareness-raising event in the US, held the first Tuesday of August. Texas has the option to use the alternate date of Tuesday, October 2, 2012, to avoid hot weather.
The event has been held annually since 1984 and is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch in the United States and Canada.
The event is meant to increase awareness about police programs in communities, such as drug prevention, town watch, neighborhood watch, and other anti-crime efforts.
Famous quotes containing the words national and/or night:
“There is no national science just as there is no national multiplication table; anything that is national is not scientific.”
—Anton Pavlovich Chekhov (18601904)
“What is the good of a man and he
Alone and alone, with a speckled shin?
I would that I drank with my love on my knee,
Between two barrels at the inn.
Oro, oro!
To-morrow night I will break down the door.”
—William Butler Yeats (18651939)
