National Day Parade, 2009 - Security

Security

In the event of a chemical or bomb attack, the Singapore Civil Defence Force and Singapore Police Force had prepared stations outside the stadium as a precaution. Evacuation routes were planned and if such an attack is to happen, spectators are able to evacuate in an orderly manner. Sharp items such as knives and scissors are not allowed into the stadium and will be confiscated. For security reasons, X-ray scanners and metal detectors are put in place at the stadium.

Since the parade is held by the bay, waterways in the bay was out of bounds to the usual sea craft and bumboats ferrying tourists along Singapore River.

Due to the Influenza A (H1N1) pandemic, upon arrival, all participants were screened by thermal scanners before entering the holding area. Thermal scanners had been situated at all entry points.

Famous quotes containing the word security:

The horror of class stratification, racism, and prejudice is that some people begin to believe that the security of their families and communities depends on the oppression of others, that for some to have good lives there must be others whose lives are truncated and brutal.
    Dorothy Allison (b. 1949)

I feel a sincere wish indeed to see our government brought back to it’s republican principles, to see that kind of government firmly fixed, to which my whole life has been devoted. I hope we shall now see it so established, as that when I retire, it may be under full security that we are to continue free and happy.
    Thomas Jefferson (1743–1826)

Learned institutions ought to be favorite objects with every free people. They throw light over the public mind which is the best security against crafty and dangerous encroachments on the public liberty.
    James Madison (1751–1836)
