National Breast Cancer Foundation
The National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) is the leading community-funded national organization in Australia, supporting and promoting research for the prevention and cure of breast cancer.
Since the establishment of NBCF in 1994, over $81 million has been awarded to 300 research projects across Australia to improve the health and well-being of breast cancer patients. Research programs funded by NBCF cover every aspect of breast cancer, from increasing understanding of genetics to improving ways to support women and their families.
Underpinning NBCF’s approach is the National Action Plan for Breast Cancer Research and Funding, a blueprint for accelerating our knowledge and understanding of breast cancer. The National Action Plan focuses on funding collaborations with other like-minded organizations, including the state-based Cancer Councils and Cancer Australia. This ensures a long-term, cost effective and coordinated approach to research while providing an opportunity to accurately monitor and report outcomes to supporters.
NBCF does not receive any government funding and therefore relies on corporate and community support to continue its work. Key fund-raising initiatives of NBCF are October Pink Ribbon campaigns, including Pink Ribbon Breakfast, Pink Ribbon Day, Pink Magazine, Global Illumination and Pink Ribbon Licensed Products. In addition, NBCF works with a range of corporate partners on cause-related campaigns.
NBCF also works with third parties on major fund raising events such as the Mother’s Day Classic, a national walk or run for breast cancer held annually.
"Hope is one of the greatest gifts we have been given. It carries no price tag but its value is priceless. We cling to it when the future looks uncertain and praise it when things turn out better than we could have ever imagined. Hope is the foundation on which we build our dreams and aspirations. It has been the cornerstone upon which ordinary people have accomplished extraordinary things." Sandy Lynam Clough

Famous quotes containing the words national, breast, cancer and/or foundation:
“...America has enjoyed the doubtful blessing of a single-track mind. We are able to accommodate, at a time, only one national hero; and we demand that that hero shall be uniform and invincible. As a literate people we are preoccupied, neither with the race nor the individual, but with the type. Yesterday, we romanticized the tough guy; today, we are romanticizing the underprivileged, tough or tender; tomorrow, we shall begin to romanticize the pure primitive.”
—Ellen Glasgow (18731945)
“His homely Northern breast and brain
Grow to some Southern tree,
And strange-eyed constellations reign
His stars eternally.”
—Thomas Hardy (18401928)
“Madness is locked beneath. It goes into tissues, is swallowed by the cells. The cells go mad. Cancer is their flag. Cancer is the growth of madness denied.”
—Norman Mailer (b. 1923)
“Beautiful credit! The foundation of modern society. Who shall say that this is not the golden age of mutual trust, of unlimited reliance upon human promises? That is a peculiar condition of society which enables a whole nation to instantly recognize point and meaning in the familiar newspaper anecdote, which puts into the mouth of a distinguished speculator in lands and mines this remark:MI wasnt worth a cent two years ago, and now I owe two millions of dollars.”
—Mark Twain [Samuel Langhorne Clemens] (18351910)
