National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) is an athletic association that organizes college and university-level athletic programs. Membership in the NAIA consists of smaller colleges and universities across the United States. The NAIA allows colleges and universities outside the USA as members. The NAIA has two members in Canada and at one point had one in the Bahamas, which made it the only international intercollegiate athletic association in North America until 2009. As of August 2012, the NAIA reports having 258 member institutions. Currently, the headquarters are located in Kansas City, Missouri. The NAIA sponsors 23 national championships. The CBS College Sports Network, formerly called CSTV, serves as the national media for the NAIA.

Famous quotes containing the words national and/or association:

The American, if he has a spark of national feeling, will be humiliated by the very prospect of a foreigner’s visit to Congress—these, for the most part, illiterate hacks whose fancy vests are spotted with gravy, and whose speeches, hypocritical, unctuous, and slovenly, are spotted also with the gravy of political patronage, these persons are a reflection on the democratic process rather than of it; they expose it in its process rather than of it; they expose it in its underwear.
    Mary McCarthy (1912–1989)

The aim of every political association is the preservation of the natural and imprescriptible rights of man. These rights are liberty, property, security and resistance to oppression.
—French National Assembly. Declaration of the Rights of Man (drafted and discussed August 1789, published September 1791)
