History
During the 2002 Gujarat riots Naroda Patiya witnessed the Naroda Patiya massacre, one of the worst communal violence in which 97 people were killed. On August 29, 2012, a SIT court convicted sitting Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Naroda, Maya Kodnani, Bajrang Dal's Babu Bajrangi were found guilty by the special trial court on August 30, 2012, it also convicted 30 other people, while acquitting 29 of the accused due to insufficient evidence.
