Tuggeranong Valley, Australian Capital Territory

Tuggeranong is the southernmost town centre of Canberra, the capital city of Australia. It comprises 19 suburbs with a total of 31,819 dwellings, housing 87,119 people of the 324,034 people in the Australian Capital Territory (2006 Census). The district occupies 117 square kilometres (45 sq mi)to the east of the Murrumbidgee River. On 1973-02-21, the third of the new towns planned for Canberra was inaugurated at Tuggeranong, based on planning begun in 1969 to house between 180,000 to 220,000 people. The first families moved in to the suburb of Kambah in 1974. The new town centre, composed largely of young families, soon became known locally as "nappy valley".

Famous quotes containing the words australian, capital and/or territory:

The Australian mind, I can state with authority, is easily boggled.
    Charles Osborne (b. 1927)

We saw the machinery where murderers are now executed. Seven have been executed. The plan is better than the old one. It is quietly done. Only a few, at the most about thirty or forty, can witness [an execution]. It excites nobody outside of the list permitted to attend. I think the time for capital punishment has passed. I would abolish it. But while it lasts this is the best mode.
    Rutherford Birchard Hayes (1822–1893)

Size is not grandeur, and territory does not make a nation.
    Thomas Henry Huxley (1825–95)
