Napier Lion

The Napier Lion was a 12-cylinder broad arrow configuration aircraft engine built by Napier & Son starting in 1917, and ending in the 1930s. A number of advanced features made it the most powerful engine of its day, and kept it in production long after contemporary designs had stopped production. It is particularly well known for its use on a number of racing designs, in aircraft, boats, and cars.

Famous quotes containing the words napier and/or lion:

Not only do our wives need support, but our children need our deep involvement in their lives. If this period [the early years] of primitive needs and primitive caretaking passes without us, it is lost forever. We can be involved in other ways, but never again on this profoundly intimate level.
    —Augustus Y. Napier (20th century)

Beware instinct—the lion will not touch the true prince.
    Instinct is a great matter.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)
