Notable Events

"Gold Fever", a longstanding, annual geology club event held in the month of June (floating date announced annually prior to event). The name of the event is taken from a play with words from the school mascot, the Golden Knight. Club members line-up along and within the shallow waters of the Naurashaun Brook south of Townline Road and test their skills at gold panning the placer deposits found within the brook. Due to the year-round popularity of the activity with local residents, town officials have had to begin charging non-residents of the Town of Clarkstown a fee for a day-use permit. Parking is prohibited along Townline Road.

Famous quotes containing the words notable and/or events:

In one notable instance, where the United States Army and a hundred years of persuasion failed, a highway has succeeded. The Seminole Indians surrendered to the Tamiami Trail. From the Everglades the remnants of this race emerged, soon after the trail was built, to set up their palm-thatched villages along the road and to hoist tribal flags as a lure to passing motorists.
—For the State of Florida, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)

“The ideal reasoner,” he remarked, “would, when he had once been shown a single fact in all its bearings, deduce from it not only all the chain of events which led up to it but also all the results which would follow from it.”
    Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (1859–1930)
