Nanaimo Civic Arena

The Nanaimo Civic Arena was an indoor arena located in Nanaimo, British Columbia. It was built in 1939 and hosted the short-lived Nanaimo Islanders of the Western Hockey League and the British Columbia Hockey League's Nanaimo Clippers, The Nanaimo Timbermen, among many other teams. The arena officially closed on September 9, 2006 and was torn down in November to make way for a proposed twin condominium tower complex. The new home of the Clippers is the modern Frank Crane Arena.

Famous quotes containing the words civic and/or arena:

It is hereby earnestly proposed that the USA would be much better off if that big, sprawling, incoherent, shapeless, slobbering civic idiot in the family of American communities, the City of Los Angeles, could be declared incompetent and placed in charge of a guardian like any individual mental defective.
    Westbrook Pegler (1894–1969)

... often the empowering strategies we use in the arena of love and friendship are immediately dropped when we come into the arena of politicized difference—when in fact some of those strategies are useful and necessary.
    bell hooks (b. c. 1955)
