Nadi International Airport (IATA: NAN, ICAO: NFFN) is the main international gateway for the Republic of Fiji as well as an important regional hub for the South Pacific islands, located by the coast on the western side of the main island Viti Levu. It is the main hub of Air Pacific and its domestic and regional subsidiary Pacific Sun. The airport is located 10 km from the city of Nadi and 20km from the city of Lautoka. Despite being the main airport of the country, it is situated quite far away from its capital, about 192 km from Suva, a 2.5 hour drive. There is an airport 23 km from Suva, Nausori International Airport, but its only international destinations are Auckland (New Zealand) and Port Vila (Vanuatu). In 2011 it handled 2,231,300 passengers on international and domestic flights.

Famous quotes containing the word airport:
“Airplanes are invariably scheduled to depart at such times as 7:54, 9:21 or 11:37. This extreme specificity has the effect on the novice of instilling in him the twin beliefs that he will be arriving at 10:08, 1:43 or 4:22, and that he should get to the airport on time. These beliefs are not only erroneous but actually unhealthy.”
—Fran Lebowitz (b. 1950)
