The Mystic Highland Pipe Band is a bagpipe band in the state of Connecticut. The Mystic Highland Pipe Band is a performance band was formed for the purpose of having fun, and furthering the traditions and music of the Great Highland Bagpipes with Drums in the tradition of military Scottish Pipe Bands. For this reason the band's uniform is patterned after the Scottish Regimental Pipe Bands and the band structure is modeled after a military band chain of command.

The band is important as an example of an organizatiaon working to maintain and demonstrate the traditions associated with the Scottish Regimental Pipe Band, the Great Highland Bagpipe, the military drum corps and the highland dancing common in regimental units.

Famous quotes containing the words mystic, highland, pipe and/or band:

    Uncontrolled, the hunger and thirst after God may become an obstacle, cutting off the soul from what it desires. If a man would travel far along the mystic road, he must learn to desire God intensely but in stillness, passively and yet with all his heart and mind and strength.
    Aldous Huxley (1894–1963)

    If you would feel the full force of a tempest, take up your residence on the top of Mount Washington, or at the Highland Light, in Truro.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

    Pan’s Syrinx was a girl indeed,
    Though now she’s turned into a reed;
    From that dear reed Pan’s pipe does come,
    A pipe that strikes Apollo dumb;
    Nor flute, nor lute, nor gittern can
    So chant it, as the pipe of Pan;
    John Lyly (1553–1606)

    What passes for identity in America is a series of myths about one’s heroic ancestors. It’s astounding to me, for example, that so many people really seem to believe that the country was founded by a band of heroes who wanted to be free. That happens not to be true. What happened was that some people left Europe because they couldn’t stay there any longer and had to go someplace else to make it. They were hungry, they were poor, they were convicts.
    James Baldwin (1924–1987)
