Myshall - Adelaide Memorial Church

Adelaide Memorial Church

The Church of Ireland Adelaide Memorial Church of Christ the Redeemer in Myshall is a miniature of Salisbury Cathedral. Completed in 1913, it was commissioned by a London businessman, John Duguid, in memory of his daughter Constance, killed in a hunting accident, and her mother Adelaide, who died in 1903. Both are buried here.

Famous quotes containing the words memorial and/or church:

When I received this [coronation] ring I solemnly bound myself in marriage to the realm; and it will be quite sufficient for the memorial of my name and for my glory, if, when I die, an inscription be engraved on a marble tomb, saying, “Here lieth Elizabeth, which reigned a virgin, and died a virgin.”
    Elizabeth I (1533–1603)

A church is disaffected when it is persecuted, quiet when it is tolerated, and actively loyal when it is favoured and cherished.
    Thomas Babington Macaulay (1800–1859)
