Muziris - Archaeological Excavations

Archaeological Excavations

The site for archaeological research by Kerala Council for Historical Society (KCHR) at Pattanam (10°09′24″N 76°12′33″E / 10.15667°N 76.20917°E / 10.15667; 76.20917) near N. Parur covers about 45 hectares. Archaeological work done in this area from 2007 has revealed that the four-metre thick soil conceals the ancient maritime history of the world. This site seems to have been first occupied by indigenous population around 1000 BCE and continued to be active until the 10th century. This might be part of the ancient port Muziris.
