Alan Sepinwall of The Star-Ledger states that Bear McCreary on Battlestar Galactica as well as Lost's Michael Giacchino do "transcendent work in an area that's too often underappreciated." The Chicago Tribune's Maureen Ryan praises McCreary's work on the series as "sensational" and "innovative." Cinefantastique finds it "richly textural" and "drawing deeply from ethnic and world beat music." Joanna Weiss of The Boston Globe states that "visionary composer Bear McCreary... did much to create the rich atmosphere of Battlestar." Variety says: "Galactica offers some of the most innovative music on TV today." SoundtrackNet gave the fourth season soundtrack five stars, saying "This album is a must-have for any soundtrack collector."
On the 2009 Primetime Emmy Awards Battlestar Galactica's "Prelude to War" was used in a segment showcasing "the Year in Drama".
