  • The creative process is essential for a healthy quality of life.

SDAI VISION

  • To see the Visual Arts elevate San Diego to a world-class creative and vibrant community.

SDAI MISSION

  • To develop artists and supporters of the Visual Arts through exhibition, education and outreach with innovative programs, first-class facilities, and select partnerships that reach out to schools, business, government and our global community.

    Theodore Roosevelt (1858–1919)

Prostitution is the most hideous of the afflictions produced by the unequal distribution of the world’s goods; this infamy stigmatizes the human species and bears witness against the social organization far more than does crime.
    Flora Tristan (1803–1844)

We had won. Pimps got out of their polished cars and walked the streets of San Francisco only a little uneasy at the unusual exercise. Gamblers, ignoring their sensitive fingers, shook hands with shoeshine boys.... Beauticians spoke to the shipyard workers, who in turn spoke to the easy ladies.... I thought if war did not include killing, I’d like to see one every year. Something like a festival.
    Maya Angelou (b. 1928)

Art always opts for the individual, the concrete; art is not Platonic.

Whenever any form of government shall become destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, & to institute new government, laying it’s foundation on such principles & organising it’s powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety & happiness.
    Thomas Jefferson (1743–1826)
