Museum of American Finance

The Museum of American Finance, is an American financial-history museum, located in the Financial District of the Manhattan borough of New York City, New York.

It is the nation's only independent public museum dedicated to celebrating the spirit of entrepreneurship and the democratic free-market tradition which made New York City the financial capital of the world. The museum was chartered as an educational institution. Today, financial education is at the core of the museum’s mission and its public programs and services.

The museum was founded in 1988 as the Museum of American Financial History. Until December 2006, it was located nearby in the Standard Oil Building at 26 Broadway. On January 11, 2008, the museum opened in a new location at 48 Wall Street, the former headquarters of The Bank of New York.

It is an active national-level advocate on behalf of financial literacy and is committed to helping people look to the lessons of American financial history, while taking charge of their own financial lives.

The museum is an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution.

    Always clung to by barnacles.
Hawaiian saying no. 2661, ‘lelo No’Eau, collected, translated, and annotated by Mary Kawena Pukui, Bishop Museum Press, Hawaii (1983)

The moment when she crawled out onto the back of the open limousine in which her husband had been murdered was the first and last time the American people would see Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis crawl.... She was the last great private public figure in this country. In a time of gilt and glitz and perpetual revelation, she was perpetually associated with that thing so difficult to describe yet so simple to recognize, the apotheosis of dignity.
    Anna Quindlen (b. 1952)

Imperialism is capitalism at that stage of development at which the dominance of monopolies and finance capitalism is established; in which the export of capital has acquired pronounced importance; in which the division of the world among the international trusts has begun, in which the division of all territories of the globe among the biggest capitalist powers has been completed.
    Vladimir Ilyich Lenin (1870–1924)
