Municipal Liberia

A.D. Municipal Liberia is a Costa Rican football team playing at the top level in the Primera Division. The team its based in Liberia, Guanacaste. Their home stadium is Estadio Edgardo Baltodano Briceño. The team was bought largely by tycoon Mario Sotela (linked to the Sotela-Montagne family), at the beginning of this year. The team is now being called "Liberia Mia" (My Liberia), because the co-owner Mario Sotela has a project that is also located in Liberia that is called "Africa Mia" (it is a special zoo based only on African animals and species). Nevertheless in 2010 the owner of Liberia Mía decided change his name to "Águilas Guanacastecas" (Guanacastecan Eagles). A new stadium was announced, its building will start by the end of 2007 or the beginning of 2008, it is expected to be within "Africa Mia" or nearby.

In July 2010, Liberia Mia moved to the Costa Rica Second Division after trading franchise rights with Asociación Deportiva Barrio México. The move was regarded by some as controversial
