Mechanical Advantage
MJTs have a high mechanical advantage for tightening large nuts. To calculate mechanical advantage over standard hex nuts, the following formula is used:
Where:
-
MA = overall mechanical advantage T = main thread torque Tj = jackbolt torque n = number of jackbolts D = main thread pitch diameter d = jackbolt pitch diameter A = torque advantage of jackbolts over tension bolts (with graphite lube A=1.37)

Famous quotes containing the words mechanical and/or advantage:
“Prejudices are so to speak the mechanical instincts of men: through their prejudices they do without any effort many things they would find too difficult to think through to the point of resolving to do them.”
—G.C. (Georg Christoph)
“Beside all the moral benefit which we may expect from the farmers profession, when a man enters it considerately, this promised the conquering of the soil, plenty, and beyond this, the adorning of the country with every advantage and ornament which labor, ingenuity, and affection for a mans home, could suggest.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
