Muhammad Ahmad Said Khan Chhatari - Round Table Conference

Round Table Conference

During the spring session of the Provincial Council in 1929 when the subject of separate electorates came up in a debate on an innocuous topic, the United Provinces Town Areas (Amendment Bill) leading Muslims of the United Provinces, most notably the Nawab of Chhatari, spoke in favour of separate electorates.

Nawab Chhatari attended the first Round Table Conference, held in St. James Palace in London on 12 November 1930. The Muslim Delegation was led by the Aga Khan III and others, including, but not limited to, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Sir Mohammad Shafi, Maulana Mohammad Ali, Dr. Shafat Ahmad, Sir Muhammad Zafarullah Khan, Nawab of Chhatari and Fazlul Huq.

Famous quotes containing the words table and/or conference:

The best thing about Sassy Seats is that grandmothers cannot figure out how they work and are in constant fear of the child’s falling. This often makes them forget to comment on other aspects of the child’s development, like why he is not yet talking or is still wearing diapers. Some grandmothers will spend an entire meal peering beneath the table and saying, “Is that thing steady?” rather than, “Have you had a doctor look at that left hand?”
    Anna Quindlen (20th century)

Politics is still the man’s game. The women are allowed to do the chores, the dirty work, and now and then—but only occasionally—one is present at some secret conference or other. But it’s not the rule. They can go out and get the vote, if they can and will; they can collect money, they can be grateful for being permitted to work. But that is all.
    Mary Roberts Rinehart (1876–1958)
