The film Rumor Has It... is based on the assumption that The Graduate is based on real events which become uncovered. The song "Mrs. Robinson" is featured in this film as well.

"Mrs. Robinson" is also mentioned in the book series "50 Shades of Grey". Elena Lincoln, nicknamed "Mrs. Robinson", a reference to the film 'The Graduate', by Ana was Christian Grey's oldest friend and business partner. She is described as an elegant, sexy regal blonde and always appears to be very well-groomed. She entered Christian's life as a friend to his adoptive mother Dr. Grace Trevelyn Grey and soon they began an affair when he was 15 years old.

In early January 2010, after news of Iris Robinson (wife of Northern Ireland First Minister Peter Robinson) having an extramarital affair with the (40 years younger) adult child of a family friend became public, a group was set up on Facebook attempting to get the song "Mrs. Robinson" to No.1 in the Official UK Singles Chart for that week via download sales. It received coverage in The Telegraph and other British media. It also received coverage in gay-related publications because of the anti-gay stand of Peter Robinson.

The 2011 Doctor Who episode "The Impossible Astronaut" has the young-looking Eleventh Doctor introduce his middle-aged future wife River Song in 1969 to President Nixon as "Mrs. Robinson", a nod towards a hinted-at romantic relationship between the two in the Doctor's future and in River's past (due to time-travel). River's line "Hello, Benjamin" spoken in the Doctor Who episode "Let's Kill Hitler" is a quote from a line spoken by Anne Bancroft as Mrs. Robinson in The Graduate.

Famous quotes containing the words film and/or culture:

The obvious parallels between Star Wars and The Wizard of Oz have frequently been noted: in both there is the orphan hero who is raised on a farm by an aunt and uncle and yearns to escape to adventure. Obi-wan Kenobi resembles the Wizard; the loyal, plucky little robot R2D2 is Toto; C3PO is the Tin Man; and Chewbacca is the Cowardly Lion. Darth Vader replaces the Wicked Witch: this is a patriarchy rather than a matriarchy.
Andrew Gordon, U.S. educator, critic. “The Inescapable Family in American Science Fiction and Fantasy Films,” Journal of Popular Film and Television (Summer 1992)

The problem of culture is seldom grasped correctly. The goal of a culture is not the greatest possible happiness of a people, nor is it the unhindered development of all their talents; instead, culture shows itself in the correct proportion of these developments. Its aim points beyond earthly happiness: the production of great works is the aim of culture.
    Friedrich Nietzsche (1844–1900)
