Mr Kipling - French Fancies

French Fancies

Mr Kipling French Fancies are small sponge cakes, resembling petits fours, topped with a hemisphere of vegetable-oil "buttercream". The cakes are coated with fondant icing, with several varieties drizzled with a second colour. Standard varieties are pink ("strawberry") with white drizzle, yellow ("lemon") with chocolate drizzle, and brown (chocolate) with chocolate drizzle. Whereas cocoa is cited in the ingredients list, strawberry and lemon are not. The cakes are 59.5% sugar.

In September 2008, Mr Kipling announced the Big French Fancy, a large cake which can be sliced into portions. Supermarket and home made copies are called Fondant Fancies.

Famous quotes containing the words french and/or fancies:

    The French manner of hunting is gentlemanlike; ours is only for bumpkins and bodies. The poor beasts here are pursued and run down by much greater beasts than themselves; and the true British fox-hunter is most undoubtedly a species appropriated and peculiar to this country, which no other part of the globe produces.
    Philip Dormer Stanhope, 4th Earl Chesterfield (1694–1773)

    A withered silence filled my chest of sorrow
    With mildewed fancies till she came to me;
    My world she made of laughter and tomorrow
    A lonely sail that gemmed a wasted sea.
    Allen Tate (1899–1979)
