Mounting Block - Standing Stones, Stone Rows, Etc.

Standing Stones, Stone Rows, Etc.

At Eskdalemuir in Dumfries and Galloway, the remains of a 'stone avenue' are known as the Loupin' Stanes due to the similarity with said structures. The Wolfcleuchhead, 'Loupin' Stone', Mounting Steps or Mounting Block is in the parish of Roberton, Scottish Borders. This stone bears two carved heads and lettering; on the other the name 'Wolfcleuchead'. These names have arisen either from the appearance or the actual re-use of these stones.

Famous quotes containing the words standing and/or stone:

Grandfather sang it under the gallows:
“Hear, gentlemen, ladies, and all mankind:
Money is good and a girl might be better,
But good strong blows are delights to the mind.”
    There, standing on the cart,
He sang it from his heart.
    William Butler Yeats (1865–1939)

    It is of stone.
    A rosy stone that takes
    a glowing tone of softness
only because behind it the sky is a doubtful, a doubting
    night gray.
    Denise Levertov (b. 1923)
