Mountain View High School (Virginia) - Literature and Art Magazine

Literature and Art Magazine

MVHS has an award-winning student-run literature and art magazine called Scene. In its first year of publication (2005–2006), Scene earned both a Gold Medal and a Gold Crown from Columbia Scholastic Press Association (CSPA). In addition to these prestigious distinctions, the first issue of Scene also won top awards from NSPA and ASPA, and was awarded Trophy Class by the Virginia High School League (VHSL). In its second year of publication, Scene earned top awards from CSPA, NSPA, SIPA, and VHSL. The magazine was deemed "Best in Show" at the VHSL's annual publications workshop on October 27, 2007.

Scene accepts submissions of art and writing from the student body. A volunteer after-school student staff then selects and edits those submissions for publication and designs the magazine. The magazine is printed by Stafford Printing.

Famous quotes containing the words literature, art and/or magazine:

    A people’s literature is the great textbook for real knowledge of them. The writings of the day show the quality of the people as no historical reconstruction can.
    Edith Hamilton (1867–1963)

    Blow, blow, thou winter wind!
    Thou art not so unkind
    As man’s ingratitude;
    Thy tooth is not so keen
    Because thou art not seen,
    Although thy breath be rude.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

    For with this desire of physical beauty mingled itself early the fear of death—the fear of death intensified by the desire of beauty.
    Walter Pater 1839–1894, British writer, educator. originally published in Macmillan’s Magazine (Aug. 1878)
