Motion Ensemble

Motion Ensemble is a musical group formed in New Brunswick. They play contemporary classical music and experimental music. Motion Ensemble Inc. is a non-profit organization in the province of New Brunswick founded in 1998.

Motion Ensemble has been self-producing concerts since its founding, primarily in a series in Saint John called Open Arts with additional concerts in Fredericton and Sackville and Moncton. Motion commissions new work as much as possible; most of their concerts feature composers of the Canadian Music Centre.

Motion Ensemble has also been presented by many innovative music organizations in Canada, including: Jusqu'aux Oreilles (Montreal), Scotia Festival of Music (Halifax), Sound Symposium (Newfoundland), NUMUS (Kitchener), The Music Gallery (Toronto), Western Front Society (Vancouver), Ensemble contemporain de Montréal, New Works Calgary, Edmonton’s E.C.C.S and many more.

In 2003, Motion released its recording John Cage Variations I-III (on New York label Mode Records). The release concert was at Tonic in New York.

Members of the group include: Helen Pridmore,soprano; Andrew R. Miller, contrabass; Nadia Francavilla, violin; Karin Aurell, flutes; Richard Hornsby, clarinets; D'Arcy Philip Gray, percussion.
