Morgan Morgan-Giles

Rear-Admiral Sir Morgan Charles Morgan-Giles, DSO, OBE, GM, DL (born 19 June 1914) is a former Royal Navy officer, decorated during World War II, who later served as a Conservative Member of Parliament.

Morgan-Giles was educated at Clifton College before joining the Royal Navy. He commanded HMS Vigilant, Vernon 1959-60 and HMS Belfast 1961-62. He was President of the Royal Naval College, Greenwich 1962-64 and was Prime Warden of the Shipwrights' Company 1987-88. He had farming interests in Hampshire and New South Wales.

Retiring from the Royal Navy in January 1964, Morgan-Giles was elected a Conservative Party Member of Parliament at the Winchester by-election on 14 May 1964. He served in the House of Commons until 1979, when he stood down and was succeeded by John Browne. Following the death of Lord Glenamara CH in May 2012, he became the oldest surviving former MP.

Morgan-Giles was appointed a Knight Bachelor in the 1985 New Years Honours List. He married twice (both wives predeceasing him) and has six children by his 1st wife. He wrote an autobiography for the benefit of his extensive family, entitled "The Unforgiving Minute".
