St. Bartholomew Church
St. Bartholomew's Church is a respectable grey stone church by the atmospheric ruins of Moreton Corbet castle. The church features a Norman chancel and an ambitious later south aisle. There is an unusual triangular west window and chest tombs bearing effigies of the Corbet family - one with eighteen children portrayed and one with a single baby in swaddling clothes with rose and lily. There is also an extraordinary Corbet family pew-room built into the south wall complete with a fireplace and carved seating on three sides. There is good stained glass throughout - particularly a huge 19th century east window, teeming with children.
The church was patronised by the Corbet family and also houses a number of the family's funerary monuments. The chest tomb of Sir Richard Corbet (died 1566) and his wife Margaret can be seen today.

Famous quotes containing the word church:
“The Church seems to totter to its fall, almost all life extinct. On this occasion, any complaisance would be criminal which told you, whose hope and commission it is to preach the faith of Christ, that the faith of Christ is preached.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
