Party Standings
The most recent election was the Montreal municipal election, 2009, in which Gérald Tremblay's Union Montréal party won 38 of the 65 seats on council. However, in 2012 the city has been significantly rocked by allegations of political corruption publicized in hearings of the provincial Charbonneau commission — following Tremblay's resignation as mayor on November 5, 2012, Union Montréal lost its majority on council as several councillors have quit the party to sit as independent councillors.
