East Asia
Genghis Khan and his descendants invaded China, and forced Korea to become a vassal through an invasion of Korea. They attempted an invasion of Japan and Vietnam but failed in both. Their biggest triumph was setting up their own Yuan Dynasty in China in 1271, though it was eventually overthrown by the native Han Chinese in 1368, who launched their own Ming Dynasty. Mongol invaded Burma in 1277, 1283 and 1287.

Famous quotes containing the words east and/or asia:
“The majority of the men of the North, and of the South and East and West, are not men of principle. If they vote, they do not send men to Congress on errands of humanity; but while their brothers and sisters are being scourged and hung for loving liberty,... it is the mismanagement of wood and iron and stone and gold which concerns them.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“I have no doubt that they lived pretty much the same sort of life in the Homeric age, for men have always thought more of eating than of fighting; then, as now, their minds ran chiefly on the hot bread and sweet cakes; and the fur and lumber trade is an old story to Asia and Europe.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
