In interviews and in published articles regarding the Rochdale sex trafficking gang, Shafiq has made controversial statements blaming the Mirpuri community for harbouring a racist attitude towards white girls, an attitude which makes Mirpuri men more prone to exploiting white girls for sex and at the same time hypocritically protecting their own Asian girls.
