Mohammed Shafiq

Mohammed Shafiq (25 January 1979 in Manchester, England) is the chief executive of the Ummah channel and a founding member of the Ramadhan Foundation once an incorporated limited company, the United Kingdom's leading Muslim youth organisation'.

The Foundation is a moderate group aimed at helping young Muslims in the United Kingdom and fostering interfaith dialogue.

As the Press Spokesman, he was able to become a regular face across TV, radio and newspapers responding to Muslim issues. Some accuse him of being a "rent a quote" with strong views and that he does not think of the consequences of his actions, whilst others praise him for speaking out.

Mohammed Shafiq has spoken out against extremism and terrorism, and was the first UK Muslim leader to appear on BBC News to condemn the 2007 Glasgow International Airport attack.

He was the project manager for the first Muslim Unity Convention, held in the aftermath of the 7/7 attacks. He also a member of the organising committee of the 2nd International Muslim Unity Convention held in October 2009 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

He was appointed as press spokesman of The Ramadhan Foundation in August 2005 and made numerous statements on controversial subjects like forced marriages, honour killings, grooming of white teenagers, and drug dealers.

He has been a Presenter on the Ummah Channel (based in Blackburn) since Autumn 2009 and presents various shows including the Debate Night show

Shafiq also regularly reviews the newspapers on Stephen Nolan's weekend late night show on BBC Radio 5 Live.
