Institutions
A number of institutes offer training in modern psychoanalysis leading to licensure, certification, and/or advanced academic degrees.
The Center for Modern Psychoanalytic Studies in New York offers a certificate leading to eligibility for New York state licensure as a psychoanalyst. The Boston Graduate School of Psychoanalysis in Massachusetts offers accredited masters and doctoral degrees in psychoanalysis. It also offers a non-clinical doctoral degree in psychoanalysis and culture. Other modern analytic institutes include The Academy of Clinical and Applied Psychoanalysis in New Jersey, and the New Jersey Center for Modern Psychoanalysis.

Famous quotes containing the word institutions:
“Have we no culture, no refinement, but skill only to live coarsely and serve the Devil?to acquire a little worldly wealth, or fame, or liberty, and make a false show with it, as if we were all husk and shell, with no tender and living kernel to us? Shall our institutions be like those chestnut burs which contain abortive nuts, perfect only to prick the fingers?”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“The only justification for repressive institutions is material and cultural deficit. But such institutions, at certain stages of history, perpetuate and produce such a deficit, and even threaten human survival.”
—Noam Chomsky (b. 1928)
“The way in which men cling to old institutions after the life has departed out of them, and out of themselves, reminds me of those monkeys which cling by their tailsaye, whose tails contract about the limbs, even the dead limbs, of the forest, and they hang suspended beyond the hunters reach long after they are dead. It is of no use to argue with such men. They have not an apprehensive intellect, but merely, as it were a prehensile tail.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
