Famous quotes containing the word august:
“That night ended the day when history was written in Abilene. August 14, 1865 was the date. That was the end of the first drive on the Chisolm Trail. It was just the first of thousands of such drives bringing beef to the world.”
—Borden Chase [Frank Fowler] (1900–1971)
“In the old days, one married a wife; now one forms a company with a female partner, or moves in to live with a friend. And then one seduces the partner, or defiles the friend.”
—J. August Strindberg (1849–1912)
“To go by the asters
and breathe
the sweetness that hovers
in August about the tall milkweeds,
without a direct look ...”
—Denise Levertov (b. 1923)
