Miss World 2009

Miss World 2009, the 59th Miss World pageant, was held on December 12, 2009 at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Johannesburg, South Africa. 112 contestants from all over the world competed for the crown, marking the biggest turnout in the pageant's history. Miss World 2008, Ksenia Sukhinova of Russia, crowned Kaiane Aldorino of Gibraltar, at the end of event.

Telecast for this event includes a debut broadcast on E! Entertainment in the United States which boasts 600 million home viewers internationally. Other broadcasters include SABC3 in the host country South Africa, CCTV-1 in China, Zee Cafe in India, Paris Première in France, RCTI in Indonesia and Venevision in Venezuela. The popular Umoja ensemble took center stage to the dollop of local culture showcasing awe-inspiring dance that included the sense-consuming gumboot dance. The scorching-hot urban-pop group Gang of Instrumentals definitely got the crowd thumbs up for their toe-tapping act.

Firstly, contestants traveled to London, United Kingdom and Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates between November 5 and November 14. On November 15, contestants arrived at Johannesburg and traveled to Port Elizabeth between November 16 and November 18. On November 20, contestants met South Africa President Jacob Zuma at Presidential Guest House in Pretoria. During the following days upon the finals, contestants visited Soweto, Durban, Limpopo, Cape Town as well as Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe.
