Military Career
After the partition, Beg settled in Lahore, Pakistan and applied for the military service in the Pakistan Armed Forces and went onto to attend military courses at the Pakistan Military Academy (PMA). On 23 August 1952, Beg gained commissioned as second lieutenant in the 6th PMA Long Course in the Baloch Regiment, an infantry regiment. From 1952-1958, he elevated to the ranks, as lieutenant in 1956; and army captain in 1958. The same year, he was selected by the special branch for the Special Service Group and was departed to special forces training with the United States Army Special Forces in the United States.
After his training in special operations, he was promoted to Major rank and appointed as a commanding officer of the commando unit of Special Service Group (SSG) in 1960. His first combat experience took place in 1960 in Western Pakistan when he commanded his commando unit to remove the Nawab of Dir in Chitral in the northern part of North-West Frontier Province. From March 1975 to January 1978, then Brigadier Mirza Aslam Beg stayed as the Chief Instructor of Armed Forces War College at the then National Defence College, Rawalpindi.
