Miramar Peninsula - Weather

Weather

The Miramar Peninsula is exposed to Wellington's prevailing northwest wind and the southerly wind. During southerly storms, big waves and swells batter the peninsula's rocky southern shore. The peninsula's topography, with its high ridges and small bays and coves, provides shelter from the wind to many places. On 15 August 2011, during a prolonged southerly storm, snow fell across the peninsula in the late morning, settling in light drifts on trees, streets and fields. Like other parts of Wellington, snowfall at sea level is a very rare occurrence.

Famous quotes containing the word weather:

Haze, char, and the weather of All Souls:
A giant absence mopes upon the trees:
    Richard Wilbur (b. 1921)

    What
One believes is what matters. Ecstatic identities
Between one’s self and the weather and the things
Of the weather are the belief in one’s element,
    The casual reunions, the long-pondered
    Surrenders, the repeated sayings that
There is nothing more and that it is enough....
    Wallace Stevens (1879–1955)

The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and tempting desired him that he would shew them a sign from heaven. He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red. And in the morning, It will be foul weather today: for the sky is red and lowring. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?
Bible: New Testament Jesus, in Matthew, 16:1-3.
