Mirage (song)

Mirage (song)

"Mirage" is a song by Tommy James and the Shondells released in 1967 on the album, I Think We're Alone Now.

This song came to be during a songwriting session when producer Bo Gentry accidentally inserted a master copy of "I Think We're Alone Now" backwards in his reel-to-reel tape player. Tommy and the group instantly liked the reverse chord progression and recorded it with new lyrics by Ritchie Cordell, who had written "I Think We're Alone Now."

"Mirage" debuted on the Hot 100 on Tommy's 20th birthday, eventually reaching #10 and #2 on the Canadian charts.
