Miraculous Medal

The Miraculous Medal (French: Médaille miraculeuse), also known as the Medal of the Immaculate Conception, is a medal, the design of which was originated by Saint Catherine Labouré following her reported vision of the Blessed Virgin Mary and made by goldsmith Adrien Vachette.

The Roman Catholic Church holds that wearing the medal with faith and devotion can bring special graces through the intercession of Mary at the hour of death. However, such items of devotion are not charms and should not be construed as being either "magical" or superstitious but serve as constant physical reminders of devotion and Mary's promise.

Famous quotes containing the word miraculous:

To lose sensibility, to see what one sees,
As if sight had not its own miraculous thrift,
To hear only what one hears, one meaning alone,
As if the paradise of meaning ceased
To be paradise, it is this to be destitute.
    Wallace Stevens (1879–1955)
