Minor Battles in The Lord of The Rings - Fight in The Tower of Cirith Ungol

Fight in The Tower of Cirith Ungol

Combatants: Orcs of Cirith Ungol vs. Orcs of Minas Morgul

In The Return of the King the Orcs of the Tower of Cirith Ungol and a patrol from Minas Morgul fight over the captured Frodo's mithril shirt, and nearly wipe themselves out. The two sides were led by Shagrat, Captain of Cirith Ungol, and Gorbag, a minor commander from Minas Morgul, both Uruks. Shagrat wished to follow his orders, which were to send EVERYTHING found with captive to Lugbúrz (Barad-dûr), while Gorbag coveted the mithril shirt for himself. Eventually, Shagrat and Gorbag started fighting over the mithril shirt. As a result, only three Orcs were left alive in the tower, making it much easier for Sam to break in and rescue Frodo. Shagrat was the only survivor and he escaped and brought the mithril vest to Lugbúrz.

Famous quotes containing the words fight and/or tower:

One may confidently assert that when thirty thousand men fight a pitched battle against an equal number of troops, there are about twenty thousand on each side with the pox.
    Voltaire [François Marie Arouet] (1694–1778)

Shall I still be love’s house on the widdershin earth,
Woe to the windy masons at my shelter?
Love’s house, they answer, and the tower death
Lie all unknowing of the grave sin-eater.
    Dylan Thomas (1914–1953)
