The 1959 season was the Golden Gophers' sixth under head coach Murray Warmath. The Golden Gophers won two games and lost seven. Total attendance for the season was 263,983, which averaged to 52,796. The season high for attendance was against Michigan.

Tackle Mike Wright was named an Academic All-American and Academic All-Big Ten. Offensive lineman Jerome Shetler was also named Academic All-Big Ten.

End Tom Moe was awarded the Team MVP Award.
