  • The text of the „Star Spangled Banner“, the USA national hymn was composed by Francis Scott Key while he was a prisoner on board of the HMS Minden during the attack on Baltimore. The first draft was titled the "Defense of Ft. McHenry“ before its expanded text became the Star Spangled Banner. The HMS Minden was named after the town of Minden and in honor of the Battle of Minden that the British, Hanoverian, Kurhessen, Brunswick and Schaumburg-Lippe troops won over the French On August 1, 1759. The ship was transferred eventually to Hong Kong where it served as a hospital ship. In its honor two Hong Kong streets were named Minen Row and Minden avenue.
  • The campus of the Universiti Sains Malaysia, a leading Malaysian university, was built on the territory of the former British Minden Barracks, which themselves where named after the Battle of Minden.
  • In Hungarian the translation of the word Minden means "everything“.
