Miller Brothers 101 Ranch - National Historic Landmark

National Historic Landmark

The ranch property was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1975.

After Zack Miller’s bankruptcy, the federal Farm Security Administration (FSA) divided the remaining ranch lands and sold off parcels to individuals. The 101 Ranch house and most other buildings were torn down. The 101 Ranch store remained standing until September 22, 1987, when it burned in a fire of unknown origins. Few of the 101 Ranch buildings are left standing today. In 1990, the Oklahoma Legislature designated State Highway 156 as the 101 Ranch Memorial Road. An historical marker is located on the highway about 13 miles (21 km) southwest of Ponca City.

Famous quotes containing the words national, historic and/or landmark:

    His mind was strong and clear, his will was unwavering, his convictions were uncompromising, his imagination was powerful enough to invest all plans of national policy with a poetic charm.
    Woodrow Wilson (1856–1924)

    We are becoming like cats, slyly parasitic, enjoying an indifferent domesticity. Nice and snug in “the social” our historic passions have withdrawn into the glow of an artificial cosiness, and our half-closed eyes now seek little other than the peaceful parade of television pictures.
    Jean Baudrillard (b. 1929)

    They throw in Drummer Hodge, to rest
    Uncoffined—just as found:
    His landmark is a kopje-crest
    That breaks the veldt around;
    Thomas Hardy (1840–1928)
