Famous quotes containing the words miles, davis, peacock and/or alley:

    Said, All you needed to do was just explain;
    Reason Reason is my middle name.
    —Josephine Miles (1911–1985)

    Man is by nature a pragmatic materialist, a mechanic, a lover of gadgets and gadgetry; and these are qualities that characterize the “establishment” which regulates modern society: pragmatism, materialism, mechanization, and gadgetry. Woman, on the other hand, is a practical idealist, a humanitarian with a strong sense of noblesse oblige, an altruist rather than a capitalist.
    —Elizabeth Gould Davis (b. 1910)

    The rich man goes out yachting,
    Where sanctity can’t pursue him;
    The poor goes afloat
    In a fourpenny boat,
    Where the bishop groans to view him.
    —Thomas Love Peacock (1785–1866)

    In the mind there is a thin alley called death
    and I move through it as
    through water.
    Anne Sexton (1928–1974)
