Middlesbrough F.C. Reserves and Academy - Academy

Academy

The Middlesbrough Academy is the name for Middlesbrough's youth system. They play in the FA Premier Academy League.

In recent years the Academy has been noted as one of the most productive in the country and the North East, producing among others, current first team captain Matthew Bates, and first team regulars Tony McMahon and Joe Bennett. Other notable graduates include Scotland international James Morrison, Australia internationals Luke Wilkshire, Brad Jones and Rhys Williams, England internationals Adam Johnson and Stewart Downing and Northern Ireland international Chris Brunt. In 2007, the BBC noted that since the 2002–03 season, Middlesbrough had produced the most graduates from their academy to play in at least five first team games.

The head of the Academy is Dave Parnaby. He led the Academy side to the 2003 FA Youth Cup final against Manchester United where they finished runners up, before getting to the final again the next season and emerging victorious over Aston Villa.
