Mid American Energy Company - Green Energy Engagement

Green Energy Engagement

In addition to traditional power plants, MidAmerican Energy began investing in green energy solutions in 2004. The company currently generates about 3,300 megawatts through wind turbines. In 2010, the company’s energy unit placed an order of 258 wind turbines with Siemens, Europe’s largest engineering company. Siemens states that this was is the largest order of of on-shore wind power turbines the company has ever received. All 258 turbines are now located in the Iowa region, feeding 190,000 households with approximately 593 megawatts of green energy. In 2011, MidAmerican Energy entered into a wind turbine supply agreement with the German Energy company which lead to another order of 176 wind turbines. Currently, the turbines are manufactured at three different sites in the region state of Iowa. Having finalized the talks, Mark Albenze, CEO of the Americas Business Unit of Siemens Energy’s Wind Power Division, said that once the 2012 projects were complete, MidAmerican Energy and Siemens would have provided a total of 1 gigawatt of environmentally friendly power to approximately 300,000 U.S. households over a two-year period.

Famous quotes containing the words green, energy and/or engagement:

The force that through the green fuse drives the flower
Drives my green age; that blasts the roots of trees
    Is my destroyer.
And I am dumb to tell the crooked rose
My youth is bent by the same wintry fever.
    Dylan Thomas (1914–1953)

Long before Einstein told us that matter is energy, Machiavelli and Hobbes and other modern political philosophers defined man as a lump of matter whose most politically relevant attribute is a form of energy called “self-interestedness.” This was not a portrait of man “warts and all.” It was all wart.
    George F. Will (b. 1941)

But not gold in commercial quantities,
Just enough gold to make the engagement rings
And marriage rings of those who owned the farm.
What gold more innocent could one have asked for?
    Robert Frost (1874–1963)
